Where to begin when feeling called?

July 8, 2016 By Kara 1 Comment

where to begin

Two years ago today, I posted this picture:
2 years.jpg

See, I knew that I had been called to do this thing yet had NO STINKING CLUE where to begin.

And as I looked back at this picture today, I was reminded that many of you out there are feeling the same pull.

Maybe it’s towards leading a Bible study at your church, maybe its towards adoption, maybe it’s toward trying to repair a broken relationship or to salvage a marriage, maybe it’s towards mission work or to beginning to write or to speak or to teach…whatever it is, there are a few things that you can do RIGHT NOW:

1- PRAY.

Seek the Lord. You can hear Him speaking through His word, through the counsel of the godly people around you, and sometimes directly to your spirit. Pray and spend time intentionally seeking Him and His will.

My prayer in the beginning of this journey was always the same:
God, if this be Your will for me, SWING WIDE the doors and shove me through. And if it’s not, slam them shut so tight that I can’t pry them open.

2- LISTEN.

He may give you a clear green light to go ahead. Things will begin falling into place and you’ll have complete assurance that it’s Him telling you to go.

Or maybe not. Maybe He will say wait. Maybe you’ll hear nothing at all.
Keep praying. Keep trusting that He IS listening, He DOES care, and He is working all things out for your good and His glory. Will it be on our timetable? Usually not. Will it looks like we think it should? Usually not.

But it will be far better.

3- OBEY.

I get it. Maybe you’re still trembling at the thought of what you’re being called to. I think that’s okay.
But be willing to obey.
If your knees are knocking as you step forward, and your voice is shaking as you speak, WALK AND SPEAK anyway.
This journey isn’t about YOUR ability, but instead your availability and your willingness to just show up. Be willing to be His vessel, His mouthpiece. He does the work, He gets the glory. You just get to go along for the ride. YOU’RE OFF THE HOOK, friend! It’s not up to you. It’s not dependent on you. THAT is good news.

4- TRUST HIM WITH THE OUTCOME.

Our job, obedience. His job, results.

You can look back over the Scriptures and see example after example of people who obeyed the Lord, who followed Him fully, yet never saw the outcome they anticipated. And yet, they still were exactly where they should have been and doing what they should have done.
We may never know the impact of what we are being called to do until long after we are gone from this place.

But keep going anyway.
If He has given you a calling, I urge you to obey.

Will it be easy? Probably not.
Worth it? EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.

Praying for you and cheering you on, friends!

Sharing our Successes: Meet Rebecca!

July 5, 2016 By Kara Leave a Comment

This week I wanted to introduce you to one of my friends, Rebecca. I first “met” her online when she messaged me after trying some of my YouTube workout videos. She continued to be a huge supporter of my ministry and when I launched the At-Home TRIBE last October, she was one of my first participants. Since then, I’ve gotten to know her through online interactions and have been so proud of her enthusiasm, dedication, hard work, and heart for others and the Lord.

I think you’ll enjoy hearing about her journey and I think you’ll be encouraged to keep walking forward in your own.
——-

rebecca1

My name is Rebecca and I am a 34 year old wifey, twister (twin sister) and higher ed professional who loves Jesus, my sweet Schnauzer Fitzgerald, food and family.

I work as a tutor coordinator and advisor at a small college in rural South Georgia and I love it; I feel thankful every single day that God led me to this career. My job can entail eating a lot since I like to cook for my tutors so that is its own challenge.

I joined the tribe back when it first began because I was so exhausted from a mystery heath issue. I had previously been a runner, but I was feeling so tired, running was out of the question. I was exhausted, achey and had suffered from stomach issues my entire life.

My twin sister, Alexis, was in the face-to-face class when she lived in North Carolina and said Kara was wanting to do an at-home option. I immediately jumped on board and found myself in awe over the words and comfort Kara gave. I was going to so many doctors for answers and was just lost; many times during the workouts I would sob because I felt so loved and cared for through the workouts and felt the presence of the Lord meet me.

I loved and still love the way the TRIBE changes me. I feel more connected to the Lord and more ready for challenges. I also love what it’s doing for my body. I had been a runner for 4+ years and I promise you that I never saw the results I do with the tribe. My arms are more defined and I feel stronger in so many ways.

Here is a picture of Rebecca with her husband a year ago (top) and then recently (bottom picture).

I typically do a workout every other day and am also on Weight Watchers.

On my off workout days, I walk lots and try to get in my Fit Bit steps (add me on Fit Bit.)

I lost about 30 pounds doing Weight Watchers and really wanted something for toning.

The TRIBE has done that and so much more!

I struggle with sweets (I LOVE all candy) but having accountability friends in the tribe helped me so much. My most favorite tribe workout is currently the ladder workouts. I love the way it builds me up, breaks me down and then strengthens me.

I was sitting in my office one day with my arms crossed and felt a lump in my arm. I immediately freaked out and thought I should see a doctor, but soon realized it was a MUSCLE!!

Here’s another transformation picture:

Top left was her starting picture then bottom are most recent.

I never felt that before and I owe it all to God and the tribe.

Now, I know that my initial health issues that led me to the tribe is an intolerance to gluten. I resolved those issues and am now happily Gluten Free.

I haven’t been running much since starting the tribe because I just love these workouts so much. My heart is more full, I feel more happy in general and know that God has a plan for me (and all of us).
——

Thanks for sharing your story with us, Rebecca!

If you are feeling weary or tired, just start somewhere. Go for a walk, grab some weights and begin trying to do some low-impact moves, turn up some music and dance, jump in the pool and do some swimming, ride a bike…do whatever makes you happy!

As you can see from her story, sometimes it’s a process of figuring out what works for you and what doesn’t, and sometimes it involves making changes to the type foods you’re eating.

It’s worth it.
You’re all worth it.

Press on today, friends.

Our family is expanding!

July 1, 2016 By Kara 1 Comment

For those of you that know us in real life, you know how much my daughter loves dogs. She’s 8 years old and she is pretty much obsessed with them.

IMG_0432Our dog, Josie, passed away unexpectedly last month, but before that, they were inseparable.
Our daughter loves dogs. She plays with them, tries to “train” them, draws pictures of them, sings songs about them, spends all her birthday money on buying stuffed animal versions of them, and constantly asks us when she can get her own puppy.

Before we ever knew that we would be losing Josie, we began to research the possibility of getting her a puppy. After searching around, we decided to get her a Golden-Doodle. We found a breeder within driving distance who does a great job raising quality pups and who charges a reasonable fee. Without her knowing it, we put down a deposit and planned to surprise her on her birthday by telling her about this new puppy that would be coming to live with us as soon as it was old enough.

Unfortunately, 5 days before her birthday, we lost our sweet Josie and so all of our hearts were a bit weary.

The thought of starting over with another dog so soon seemed on one hand more than we could take, and on the other hand, couldn’t get here quick enough.

The Lord is really good, isn’t He? Before we ever knew that we would be losing Josie, He worked it out to where another puppy would be arriving at our home just three weeks later. He knew how much we needed a little doggy in this house.

On the morning of her birthday, we wrapped up her presents with the last one being a package that contained a dog leash, a box of puppy treats, a puppy collar, and a picture of the new puppy.

She was ecstatic!

Here’s a video of it in case you want to see:

That afternoon, we loaded up and headed to the breeder’s home who had allowed us to pick out our puppy that day.

After much more deliberation than we expected, we settled on a sweet boy that we have named Boone.

We’ve spent the past few weeks getting our home puppy-proofed and ready for our new baby.
We still have days where we’re all pretty sad and missing our sweet Josie. But we are hopeful that this boy will bring some healing and new memories to our family.

We went to pick him up last night and we are all IN LOVE already with this sweet boy!

My hope is to get him settled in and acclimated and then to rescue a second dog from our local pet shelter.

It’s been a LONG, long time since we’ve raised a puppy so I’m sure we’re in for a few sleepless nights and some new adventures.

We believe that the Lord directed us to this little fella and that He knew how much we would need him after losing Josie. We are so grateful! When we went to pick him up we found out his actual birth date and it’s the same as our sons! So cool how God works all the details out. He loves us that much, friends. I’m so grateful!

Dogs are one of my favorite things that the Lord made. Such a gift.

I’ll keep you updated on his adventures as he grows and I’m sure he’ll be making some appearances in our TRIBE workout videos soon!

DARE TO HOPE: July Theme

June 30, 2016 By Kara Leave a Comment

Hello, friends!

If you’ve been waiting for a good time to join the At-Home TRIBE, this is it!

Dare To Hope
This afternoon I’m going to be uploading our new content for July and it’s all centered around our July theme: DARE TO HOPE. This is based on Lamentations 3:21-24, which says: Yes I still dare to hope when I remember this: The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is His faithfulness, His mercies begin afresh each morning. I say to myself, “The Lord is my Inheritance’ therefore I will hope in Him”.

I’m posting links to SEVEN brand new, full length workouts, in addition to all of the fun, faith first workouts already in the BONUS CONTENT section.

If you aren’t quite sure what the At-Home TRIBE is, it’s an online membership site for women who want to grow in their own health journeys and to do it in a Christ centered, Christ honoring way.

For $12 a month you have access to a private website where workouts are shared as well as nutrition guidance, healthy living principles, monthly calendars, Biblical motivation and encouragement, recipes, and more. The best part is that your membership grants you access into a private online group where you can get support, accountability, encouragement, and daily coaching from me and our amazing tribe of 180+ women.

The membership auto renews each month, but can easily be cancelled at any time. There is no contract required.

All the workouts can be completed from the comfort of your own home using no equipment other than a set of hand weights and occasionally some drum sticks (kitchen spoons work well, too!).

I try not to spend too much time on this space “selling” you programs, but I have seen God use this group and this platform to bring some incredible freedom and healing to many women. I think sometimes we know that we should jump in and try something new, but fear holds us back.

I’m inviting you to join me and the Lord on a new adventure. Would you DARE TO HOPE this month? Could you learn a new way? No more striving, or jumping from quick-fix plan to quick-fix plan? Would you be willing to let Him teach you sustainable, healthy habits that can last a lifetime?

Sharing our Successes: Meet Brittany!

June 21, 2016 By Kara Leave a Comment

Each month, I’m going to be featuring stories of TRIBE members  to help motivate and encourage you to keep pressing on.
I’m kicking off this series with my friend, Brittany, who is a member of the At-Home TRIBE. I hope that while reading her story you are encouraged and that you gain some new insight and motivation to keep pressing on in your own journey.
———————————
My name is Brittany. I live in North Carolina with my wonderful husband and our beautiful nine month old daughter.
12359822_10102243854150515_7211906678494407259_n
I am a high school culinary arts teacher and just finished up my eighth year.

I found the At-Home Tribe last fall. I was a new mom that needed an outlet.

Before I had our little girl, I practiced warm yoga four to five days a week. I was addicted to it; I loved it. But because of the hectic schedule, I couldn’t make it to the studio.

I also was a member of a popular weight-loss program. I was truly addicted to my weekly weigh-in. I knew I needed a change for the better. My mother in law had started going to the in person classes with Kara. I knew I needed to get going, so as soon as the doctor released me, I started the At-Home membership.

I suffered from and still fight postpartum depression.

I’ve been very open and honest about it for months.
I was addicted to weighing myself daily because of the necessary weight gain in pregnancy. Sometimes multiple times a day. I reached out to get help with my depression, anxiety, and overall health. I was told that maybe my weight-loss program that I had been a member of for years had served its purpose and that it was time to set it down. Those few words are what I needed to hear.

What I have learned throughout my journey with Wellness Witness and the At-Home Tribe is that I am more than a number.
I am more than the actual size printed on my pants.
I am a momma, a wife, a daughter, a teacher, and a leader.
I have removed the scale from my line of vision.
God doesn’t see me as a number, he sees me as his child.

Before starting my weight was 158 ; I am currently 147. I do attribute the workouts with helping me lose my baby weight. I am under my pre-baby weight. I have lost inches , my pants that were too tight about two months ago fit great in my thigh area now, and I’m back into my pre-baby clothes!

My energy level is great and I sleep much better now than when I don’t work-out.
I get up early to complete my workouts; I feel like if I take care of my body first thing in the morning, I am more prepared to take care of those around me.
I also drink 33 ounces of water first thing in the morning. It wakes up the digestive system to help the metabolism.
My take-away from the At-Home Tribe is that I am not alone, I am made for hard things and to give myself a little bit of grace!
Here is Brittany’s picture from last October:

And here is a one from Mother’s Day:

We are so proud of you, Brittany! Thanks for sharing your story with us.

I LOVE the new Freedom that the Lord has given you!
